8/1/1964 (55 years ago today) -The Beatles score their fifth consecutive No. 1 single in seven months(!) when "A Hard Day's Night" goes to the top of the charts -- By this time, The Fab Four had managed to spend an astonishing seventeen weeks at the No. 1 position so far this year...

8/1/1980 (39 years ago today) - Def Leppard made their U.S. concert debut at The Palladium in New York City opening for AC/DC -- Not too much pressure there, after all, AC/DC was only touring for the "Back In Black" album...Yeesh! It was also Def Lep front man/lead vocalist Joe Elliott's 21st birthday!!!

8/1/1942 - Born on this day, legendary singer-songwriter-guitarist Jerome John Garcia -- No. 13 on Rolling Stone's Top 100 Guitarists of All Time, Jerry Garcia was with the Grateful Dead for their entire 30 year career (1965-1995) -- In addition to an impressive catalog of solo albums, Jerry was also the founder of a number of notable and critically acclaimed side projects, like The Saunders-Garcia Band (with longtime friend Merl Saunders), The Jerry Garcia Band, Old And In The Way, The Garcia/Grisman acoustic duo, The Legion of Mary and New Riders Of The Purple Sage. Jerry passed away from a heart attack at age 53 on August 9, 1995.
