8/30/1969 (48 years ago today) - It's Day One of The Texas Pop Festival held at the newly opened Dallas International Motor Speedway in Lewisville, Texas, a mere two weeks after Woodstock -- Over 120,000 fans attend over the Labor Day Weekend and it's a classic '60's line-up: On this first day you saw Canned Heat, Chicago, Grand Funk Railroad, The James Cotton Blues Band, Janis Joplin, B.B. King and Sam & Dave; Day Two featured Led Zeppelin (notably billed as "The Led Zeppelin"!), jazz flute legend Herbie Mann, Delaney & Bonnie, The Incredible String Band and Santana; Day Three headliners were Johnny Winter, Sly & The Family Stone, Nazz (led by Todd Rundgren), Spirit and Ten Years After. File under You Had To Be There...

8/30/1975 (42 years ago today) - KC and the Sunshine Band score the first of their five No. 1 singles(!!!) with "Get Down Tonight". Perspective here: while the biggest selling singles of the year included such nightmare-inducing dreck like The Captain and Tennille's "Love Will Keep Us Together", Morris Albert's "Feelings" and the dreaded "Una Paloma Blanca" (least said, better), over on the album side, 1975 looked way, way, way different thanks to "Blood On The Tracks", "Physical Graffiti" and "Born To Run". Hey, we're just sayin'...

8/30/2013 (4 years ago today) - ...and all it was, was cheeky quips, kaleidoscopic imagery, short "stories", poems and drawings, yet...: A signed copy of John Lennon's all-too-whimsical 1964 book "In His Own Write" sold for more than $5,600 after a flurry of nearly 50 bids on eBay. Pretty cool, actually.
