12/10/1966 (53 years ago today) - The Beach Boys scored their third No. 1 single with the swirly/psychedelic classic "Good Vibrations", which to this day still doesn't sound like anything else -- Legend has it that when Brian Wilson was a child, his mom told him that dogs could sense "vibrations" from people, and that dogs would bark when they picked up on "bad vibrations" which ultimately led to the idea for the song. Woof.

12/10/1967 (52 years ago today) - Soul singer-songwriter-producer-arranger and rhythm-and-blues-tour-de-force Otis Redding was killed when the plane he was a passenger on crashed into the icy waters of Lake Monoma near Madison, Wisconsin; he was just 26 years old. Trumpet player Ben Cauley was the only person to survive the crash which also took the lives of members of the soul band The Bar-Kays.

12/10/1952 - Born on this date and never forgetting how she made our young, foolish teenage hearts get all hyper, we gotta send Happy Birthday wishes out to Laurie Partridge of "The Partridge Family", actress Susan Dey, an unbelievable 67 years old today! We would watch the show with the sound turned off until Susan appeared, then we were all over it. Definitive '70's cutie-pie.
