A Beatle gig to kill for! -- A hokey piece of creepy-catchiness hits the top! -- A cool rocker birthday (close friend of The Blimp, too!)

12/20/1958 (58 years ago today) - John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison perform as The Quarry Men at the wedding reception of George's older brother, Harry, at the Harrison family home at 25 Upton Green, Liverpool. We're begging for that time machine again...

12/20/1969 (47 years ago today) - The original song title was even worse(!): it was first called "Oh Babe, I Hate To Go": yeah, we're referring to John Denver's saccharine overdose "Leaving On A Jet Plane", which, on this date, becomes the No. 1 single in the U.S. courtesy of the nausea-inducing trillings of Peter, Paul & Mary. Good ol' Peter Yarrow, by the way, was a convicted sex offender who admitting molesting a 14-year-old girl in 1970 at a Washington, D.C. hotel, when he was 32.

12/201966 - Happy Birthday to longtime/good friend of The Blimp, Chris Robinson, turning the big 5-0 today! Best known as the front-man/lead vocalist for one of rock's best live bands, The Black Crowes; these days, he records and tours as The Chris Robinson Brotherhood as well as producing other acts that, while not exactly commercial successes, did receive considerable critical acclaim: check out "Ready For The Flood" by ex-Jayhawks Mark Olsen and Gary Louris, as well as the self-titled album from "Truth & Salvage Co.", really cool stuff!
