12/30/1942 - 73 years old today, Happy Birthday to Monkees guitarist-singer-songwriter Mike Nesmith; wrote "Different Drum" which became a legendary classic hit for Linda Ronstadt when she was in the band The Stone Poneys; was executive producer for the cult film "Repo Man" (1984); also won the first Grammy Award for Video Of The Year for his hour-long TV show "Elephant Parts". More to this guy than you think...

12/30/1946 - 69 years old today, Happy Birthday to singer-songwriter-poet-author-and-visual artist, the truly amazing Patti Smith. Often referred to as the "punk poet laureate" for her ability to fuse rock and poetry like no one else (really) ever has, Patricia Lee is without question one of the coolest/most intelligent artists of the last 50 years -- named a Commander Of The Arts by the French Ministry Of Culture -- in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame -- recipient of the Polar Music Prize -- winner of The National Book Award for her memoir "Just Kids", which we think is a must-read for every human being on the planet. Really. Patti's extra special, no doubt.

12/30/1947 - 68 years old today, Happy Birthday to singer-songwriter-guitarist-and-producer-extraordinaire Jeff Lynne, a supremely talented musician with one of the most impressive resumes in rock: joined Roy Wood in highly-influential U.K. pop pioneers The Move in 1970; by '72, Jeff had pretty much taken control and morphed that group into the million-selling Electric Light Orchestra; co-founded The Traveling Wilburys with Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, George Harrison and Tom Petty; has produced albums for an astonishing list of bona-fides, including Dave Edmunds, Del Shannon, Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, Regina Spektor, Joe Walsh and Bryan Adams and we've barely touched on that list! Safe to say Jeff Lynne's probably all right then.
