12/5/1967 (50 years ago today) - Glasgow, Scotland: It's the final night of a 16-date U.K. package tour (two shows per night, 6:15 and 8:45 pm) featuring The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd, The Move (soon to morph into E.L.O.), The Nice (featuring keyboard wizard Keith Emerson) and three other bands. It took this long, but it finally happens: the management of the venue closes the curtains on The Experience while they're playing(!) because they regarded Hendrix' movements with his guitar as having "blatantly sexual overtones". Encore!!!

12/5/1973 (44 years ago today) - Paul McCartney releases the "Band On The Run" album, which is as ridiculously close to perfect as an LP can possibly get: not one wasted track, not one itsy bit of filler, just incredibly solid work from Paul at {arguably} the height of his powers. "Jet", "Helen Wheels" and the title track were the big hit singles, but it's the songs in between that stand out like the best of his Beatles stuff -- "Let Me Roll It", "Mrs. Vandebilt", "Mamunia", "Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five", so, yeah, this is whatcha call a "must have", there's no question about it...

12/5/1932 - Happy Birthday Richard Penniman, the fantastic Little Richard, 85 years old today, part of The Holy Trinity of The Founding Fathers of Rock and Roll (Elvis and Chuck Berry, that's who!) -- A quick glance at some of Richard's original compositions is all the proof you need: "Ready Teddy", "Slippin' And Slidin'", "Good Golly, Miss Molly", "Lucille", "Rip It Up", "Tutti Frutti", "Long Tall Sally", "The Girl Can't Help It" --- All together now: "A-Wop-Bom-A-Loo-Mop-A-Lomp-Bam-Bom", thank you and good night!!!
