2/16/1974 (42 years ago today) - He's Bob Dylan, he can do what he wants: Zimmy finally scores a No. 1 album on the Billboard chart with "Planet Waves" -- it remains in the top spot for four weeks in a row! Originally intended to be titled "Ceremonies Of The Horsemen" (a reference to his 1965 song "Love Minus Zero/No Limit"), at the very last minute before pressing began, Bob changed the title of the album, delaying its release by two weeks. Cool move; demand radically intensified for his first non-Columbia-label album...

2/16/1974 (42 years ago today) - Maybe it was hot out: In Salt Lake City, taking a break from their North American tour, Emerson, Lake & Palmer decide to go swimming naked in the hotel pool. They were each fined $75.

2/16/1932 - Born on this date, songwriter/producer Otis Blackwell -- oh, he only wrote Elvis' "All Shook Up", "Return To Sender", "Don't Be Cruel", Jerry Lee Lewis' "Great Balls Of Fire" and "Breathless", Jimmy Jones' "Handy Man" (later covered by James Taylor), Dee Clark's "Hey Little Girl", and Little Willie John's "Fever" (most famously done by Peggy Lee); also produced hits for artists as diverse as Connie Francis and Mahalia Jackson! Otis passed away from a heart attack May 6, 2002, at age 72.
