2/1/1969 (48 years ago today) - Tommy James & The Shondells start two weeks at No. 1 with the classic single "Crimson And Clover"; it's their second chart-topper ("Hanky Panky" was first, back in July of '66), but they also charted twelve other Top 40 hits, including five in the Hot 100's Top Ten: "I Think We're Alone Now", "Mirage", "Sweet Cherry Wine", the psychedelic masterwork "Crystal Blue Persuasion" and "Mony Mony", which turned into a monster No. 1 dance hit for Billy Idol in 1987.
