2/29/1980 (36 years ago today) - Like an episode of "The Twilight Zone"...:The glasses that Buddy Holly was wearing when he died were finally found -- turns out they had been sitting in a Mason, Iowa police file for the past 21 years!

2/29/1988 (28 years ago today) - Hard to believe, but Robert Plant's fourth studio album is almost 30 years old: "Now And Zen" is released on this date, with Jimmy Page playing guitar on "Heaven Knows" and "Tall Cool One". The album does pretty well too, selling over 3 million copies and hitting The Top Ten in both Europe and North America.

2/29/2008 (8 years ago today) - One of the original British Invasion's best voices passes away: Mike Smith, lead singer and keyboardist for The Dave Clark Five, dies from complications from pneumonia at a hospital in Buckinghamshire, England; he was 64. "Glad All Over", "Bits And Pieces", "Any Way You Want It", "You Got What It Takes", all featured Mike's rich and raspy baritone (he could sing in just about any style, as DC5 albums proved with covers of American blues and Country & Western classics!); plus he was one of the era's premier screamers, when needed. A truly remarkable and vastly underrated talent.
