2/6/1998 (19 years ago today) - He sang lead on "God Only Knows", "Good Vibrations", "Darlin'", "Surf's Up" and "I Can Hear Music": After having been diagnosed with brain and lung cancer in 1997, Carl Wilson of The Beach Boys passed away on this date at age 51. Often overshadowed by older brothers Brian and Dennis, Carl was nonetheless just as important to The Beach Boys sound as the bands lead guitarist; in fact, once Brian Wilson began withdrawing from the group, it was Carl who took over as musical director from 1965 up until his death.
