1/18/1964 (52 years ago today) - The Beatles make their American chart debut: "I Want To Hold Your Hand" enters the race at No. 45; ten days after its release, it becomes the fastest-breaking and fastest-selling single in Capitol Records history! It would go on to spend seven consecutive weeks at No. 1New world order indeed...

1/18/1965 (51 years ago today) - Hollywood, California: At RCA studios, The Rolling Stones record their new single "The Last Time", along with the b-side "Play With Fire", which, somewhat weirdly, features Phil Spector on acoustic guitar. Yup!

1/18/1974 (42 years ago today) - Here's what you get when you take two-parts of the band Free (singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke), add one from Mott The Hoople (guitarist Mick Ralphs), and one ex-King Crimson (bassist Boz Burrell):This date is when Bad Company was formed -- they sign with Led Zeppelin's brand new SwanSong record label, and their debut album hits No. 1 in the U.S. in no time at all. For the next few years, this line-up dishes out some pretty awesome "meat & potatoes" rock albums; their first four LP's are wicked, but after that...c'mon, it does get...thin...
