Today you got a One-Hit Wonder, a look at the 1975 singles chart where we only like two songs in The Top Five, plus a huge, huge, huge 1980's album about to whack us out...

1/20/1968 (48 years ago today) - They said it was inspired by The Beatles "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds"; we hope they're wrong: One-hit wonders John Fred and the Playboy Band start a two-week run at No. 1 on the U.S. singles chart with "Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)". Rather aggravating, really...

1/20/1975 (41 years ago today) - It's true: here are The Top 5 Singles in the U.S. -- No. 5, Stevie Wonder, "Boogie On Reggae Woman"; No. 4, The Ohio Players, "Fire"; No. 3, Barry Manilow, "Mandy"; No. 2, Neil Sedaka, "Laughter In The Rain"; No. 1, The Carpenters, "Please Mr. Postman". Though it's far from his best work, Stevie Wonder gets a pass because he's Stevie Wonder, and we absolutely love--love--love the ferocious grinding-relentless-funk that is The Ohio Players, but the other three? Scary...and in the case of Neil Sedaka, somewhat painful.

1/20/1985 (31 years ago today) - It had "Foolin'", "Too Late For Love", "Photograph" and "Rock Of Ages", so that's that!: Def Leppard release their third studio album (the first to feature guitarist Phil Collen) which was maxed-to-the-bone production-wise by studio-knob-twiddler-extraordinaire Robert John "Mutt" Lange -- a definitive classic of the era, "Pyromania" went on to sell over 10 million copies in the U.S. alone!!! No wonder it still gets played every day...
