1/27/1970 (50 years ago today) - Pretty cool for the pre-digital age: John Lennon wrote, recorded and mixed his new single "Instant Karma!" at London's Abbey Road studios all in one day! It remains one of the fastest-released tracks in pop music history -- the single arrived in stores just ten days later...

1/27/1971 (49 years ago today) - It's the first time ever arrival in the U.S. for one Mr. David Bowie -- He couldn't play live, however, because of a weird legal loop-hole in his work permit paperwork. Nonetheless, Bowie attracted a lot of publicity anyhow when he decided to wear a full-length fancy dress at a promotional event. You do whatcha gotta do...

1/27/1973 (47 years ago today) - "Superstition", the lead single from the new Stevie Wonder album "Talking Book", becomes his second No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, ten years after his first chart-topper ("Fingertips - Part 1 & 2", 1963). Did you know...? that Jeff Beck created the drum beat for the song while in the studio with Stevie, who had no problem offering the song for Jeff to record. Motown head honcho Berry Gordy, though, insisted that Stevie recorded it first. Jeff would later do a ferociously heavy version with his one-off power trio Jeff Beck/Tim Bogert/Carmine Appice (totally convincing by the way, and also from 1973!).
