7/12/1969 (47 years ago today) - As far as we know, it's the only one hit wonder to reach No. 1 in both the U.S. and England at the same time: Zager And Evans are responsible for "In The Year 2525 (Exordium And Terminus)"  -- It tops the singles chart on both sides of the Atlantic, and then (thankfully) they are never heard from again.

7/12/1943 - Happy Birthday Christine McVie; the fantastically under-appreciated Fleetwood Mac singer-songwriter-keyboardist turns 73 today. She was in the boys club long, long, long before any other woman in rock and never really got the proper credit for it. Check out any of the pre-Buckingham-Nicks Mac LPs of the early 1970's and you'll find that Christine was a major player indeed -- essential listening: "Bare Trees" (1972), "Mystery To Me" (1973) and "Heroes Are Hard To Find" (1974) -- in the wake of Mac's ultra-success, Christine's classic contributions have been overshadowed, and it's time to set things right. An amazing talent, really...
