7/21/1969 (47 years ago today) - The Beatles hit Abbey Road studios in London to begin work on a new John Lennon composition that borrows from both Chuck Berry and "Alice In Wonderland" -- It ends up as the opening track to their final studio album ("Abbey Road"), plus it becomes their 21st No. 1 single in England, their 26th No. 1 in America -- A round of applause, please: let's give it up for the immortal "Come Together"!!!

7/21/1973 (43 years ago today) - It's Jim Croce's first No. 1 single: "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" hits the top of the charts for two consecutive weeks, easily becoming one of the most [over]played songs on the radio of the entire year. Success was not to last, though; sadly, just 10 weeks later, Jim is killed in a plane crash. He was only 30 years old.

7/21/1947 - Happy 69th Birthday to The Artist Formerly Known as Cat Stevens: He was born Steven Demetre Georgiou in London, and went on to be one of the of the Seventies most successful and critically acclaimed artists -- His classic albums "Tea For The Tillerman" (1970) and "Teaser And The Firecat" (1971) featured his own artwork and a masterful blending of pop styles: both albums are definitive must-have's kids, you gotta get 'em! In 1977, he gave up all his belongings, went into seclusion and converted to the Muslim religion, changing his name to Yusuf Islam, and is best known these days for his philanthropic efforts to promote peace around the world. Interesting Cat, indeed. This performance is pure beauty:
