Haven't had an all Happy Birthdays edition in awhile, so we're doing one today for a pair of under-the-radar greats and one mega-cool guitar wiz...

7/23/1944 - Happy Birthday to The Rascals' feisty drummer-par-excellence, the really underrated Dino Danelli, 76 years old today. Their records were quite good, but you didn't get the full effect of just how truly rockin' this guy was -- Live-onstage, he flailed and wailed like a madman; original J. Geils Band drummer Stephen Jo Bladd noticeably copied Dino's shtick move-for-move...

7/23/1946 - Happy Birthday to {quite possibly} the only musician that could rock the oboeRoxy Music saxophonist and founding member Andy Mackay, 74 years old today -- Co-wrote some of the bands most classic material (including the hits "Love Is The Drug" and "Angel Eyes"), along with some much-adored-by-Roxy-fans deep album cuts (in particular, "While My Heart Is Still Beating" from "Avalon" is bone-chillingly superb!) -- Andy's also recorded with Duran Duran, John Cale and Paul McCartney, but around here he's probably best known for that squawking-all-over-the-place solo on Mott the Hoople's "All The Way From Memphis". These days, the just-inducted-into-the-Rock-And-Roll-Hall-Of-Fame member teaches music in England, while occasionally writing scores for TV and doing session work with some of the U.K.'s most highly regarded musicians. A pretty cool dude for sure...

7/23/1965 - Happy Birthday to Saul Hudson, 55 years old today -- Oh, it's just Slash from Guns N' Roses: Think about those licks on "Appetite For Destruction" which are more than a little responsible for the LP selling over 30 million(!!!) copies worldwide, making it the best-selling debut album of all timeHard to imagine classic rock radio without this record...
