6/01/1966 (49 years ago today) - It takes 'em 12 hours in London's Abbey Road studios, but The Beatles finally get around to finishing the overdubs on "Yellow Submarine"; the hi-jinx include John Lennon blowing bubbles in a bucket and shouting "Full speed ahead Mister Captain!", followed by the boys singing "We all live in a yellow submarine..." while marching in a conga-line behind roadie Mal Evans, whose job was to bang away at the bass drum strapped to his chest. File under: just another Beatles session, alright...

6/01/1968 (47 years ago today) - Simon & Garfunkel hit No. 1 on the U.S. singles chart with "Mrs. Robinson" (featured in the Mike Nichols film "The Graduate" with Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft). Complete with references to cupcakes, candidates debates and Joe DiMaggio, along with a hefty dose of "Whoa-whoa-whoa's" and "Woo-woo-woo's", the Paul Simon classic goes on to win the Grammy Award for Record of the Year (the following year, 1969). "Coo-coo-ca-choo's" were in there too; what more d'ya want...

6/01/1947 - Happy Birthday Ronnie Wood, 68 years old today, quite the talent: rock guitarist, songwriter, and painter-extraordinaire! Quite the resume, too: first worked alongside Rod Stewart as bassist (!) in the legendary Jeff Beck Group; got together with three members of The Small Faces to form (just plain) Faces (with Rod again, and notoriously one of the greatest live acts in rock history).  Ronnie's songwriting talents and virtuoso-acoustic-instrument prowess were all over Rod Stewart's early albums, arguably Stewart's best work; oh yeah, became a Rolling Stone in 1976. The guy really knows how to drive the band mates onstage...We love Ron Wood!!!
