6/29/1979 (37 years ago today) - Singer-songwriter-producer-and-slide-guitarist-extraordinaire Lowell George passed away from a heart attack -- Joined Frank Zappa's Mothers Of Invention in 1968 (Lowell was a featured contributor to 1970's critically acclaimed "Weasels Ripped My Flesh") -- Influenced by Zappa's leadership style, Lowell went on to form the legendary Little Feat in 1972 -- His guitar prowess earned him spotlight turns on albums by Bonnie Raitt, John Cale, Harry Nilsson, Jackson Browne, and it's Lowell's slide-skills and arrangement styles that made Robert Palmer's "Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley" album an instant classic (recorded in New Orleans, 1974) -- Lowell was only 34 years old when he died. Sadly and badly missed, he was a true original.

6/29/1984 (32 years ago today) - Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band kick off the "Born In The U.S.A." tour with the first of three sold-out nights in a row at the St. Paul, Minnesota Civic Center. An amazing and intense 156 shows later, the tour would finally end in L.A. on October 2, 1985. One of the hardest workin' men in show-biz? Absolutely!!!

6/29/1985 (31 years ago today) - David Bowie and Mick Jagger record a version of the Martha Reeves And The Vandellas 1964 classic "Dancing In The Street" for Live Aid. The original plan was to perform the song live, with Bowie at Wembley Stadium in London and Jagger at Philly's John F. Kennedy Stadium -- problem was that the satellite link-up meant a half-second delay and appearing at the same time would have been impossible unless either artist agreed to mime their part. Neither David or Mick were willing to do so.
