3/14/1983 (34 years ago today) - Singer Jon Bon Jovi, guitarist Richie Sambora and bass player Alec Jon Such decide to start a band and agree to call it "Bon Jovi". By the time 2017 rolls around, they will have released 13 studio albums, selling over 130 million worldwide, and performed more than 2,700 concerts in over 50 countries for more than 34 million fans!!! And to think it all started in Sayreville, New Jersey...

3/14/1991 (26 years ago today) - He was born in Brooklyn, New York, and his real name was Jerome Solon Felder -- songwriting superstar Doc Pomus passed away from lung cancer on this date at age 65. Along with writing partner Mort Shuman, they churned out hit after hit after hit for Elvis Presley, The Drifters and The Searchers -- honestly, it's hard to imagine the history of American Top 40 radio without such classics as "A Teenager In Love", "Save The Last Dance For Me", "This Magic Moment", "Little Sister", "Suspicion", "Surrender" and "(Marie's the Name) His Latest Flame". On his own, Doc also wrote for Ray Charles, Lavern Baker and Big Joe Turner. Immortal stuff.

3/14/1933 - Happy Birthday to musician-producer-songwriter-and-all-around-genuine-super-talent-extraordinaire Quincy Jones, 84 years old today -- Began his career in the 1950's as a jazz arranger before moving on to prominence and working prolifically in pop music and film scoring in the Sixties (and '70's!), earning several Academy Award nominations -- But it was the trilogy of Michael Jackson LP's that Quincy's best known for: "Off The Wall" (1979), "Thriller" (1982), and "Bad" (1987), with "Thriller"alone selling over 100 million (so many in fact, that has become nearly impossible to keep track of). "Impressive" doesn't even begin to describe Quincy's body of work...
