3/1/1968 (51 years ago today) - What it means to "sink without a trace": Elton John releases his very first single as a solo artist, "I've Been Loving You" -- It was on the Phillips record label, and it never, ever graced the charts. From tiny acorns, etc., etc....

3/1/1970 (49 years ago today) - The Beatles are breaking up and David Bowie has yet to make an impact...: Let's head down for a couple of pints at the ol' Northcote Arms Pub in Middlesex, England -- Tonight's entertainment bill features Mott The Hoople with Genesis(!) as the opening act. Must've been one heckuva night even if you didn't really understand what wuz goin' on...

3/1/1975 (44 years ago today) - It's the first of five No. 1 singles for The Eagles when "Best Of My Love" goes to the top of the chart. Pretty song, but likely the weakest track on the {otherwise} completely-mesmerizing "On The Border" LP (arguably their best and yes, we're including the somewhat pompous behemoth that is "Hotel California"). This line-up of the band (1973 - '75) was at its peak here, insanely talented and grossly neglected by Henley & Frey as the years rolled on which was quite a shame, really -- Still, here's a more-than-convincing live version from '77 featuring JD Souther:
