3/1/1967 (49 years ago today) - At Abbey Road in London, a new song by John Lennon is first practiced by the band in a series of run through's: "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" was indeed written by John after his then 3 year old son Julian came home from school with a drawing of a classmate surrounded by stars. The little girl's name was Lucy O'Donnell.

3/1/1975 (41 years ago today) - It's the first of five No. 1 singles for The Eagles: "Best Of My Love" replaces the Average White Band's "Pick Up The Pieces" for the top spot on the Billboard chart, but remains there for just one week, only to be succeeded by Olivia Newton-John's "Have You Never Been Mellow". A rather queasy start to the month...

3/1/1944 - Happy Birthday to Roger Daltrey of The Who, 72 years old today. In addition to his legendary status as one of rock's all time best (and charismatic) front men (with The Who selling over 100 million records worldwide), Roger's also an actor and film producer, with starring roles in the movies, theatre and television. Classic chops!
