3/23/1977 (39 years ago today) - Elvis performs at the Arizona State University in Tempe, the first of 49 scheduled U.S. shows. The tour is supposed to take a little over three months -- it turns out to be Elvis' last, with the final concert on June 26th in Indianapolis.

3/23/1997 (19 years ago today) - U2 are at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard LP chart with their ninth studio album "Pop"; it is the band's fifth U.S. chart topper. How many Cars classics get played on the radio all around the world every single gosh-darn day?!?!? You get the point: Ric wrote 'em all, yet he never seems to get the cred. Along with producing great records for Weezer, No Doubt, Nada Surf, Jonathan Richman, Bad Religion and the highly influential and controversial electronic duo Suicide, it's time we stand up and cheer for one of New England's most successful musicians...Ric Ocasek is rather quite all right.
