5/10/1946 - Happy Birthday Donovan, 73 years old today! Donovan Philips Leitch was born in Glasgow, Scotland and with his eclectic and distinctive blend of folk, jazz, pop, psychedelia and world music, went on to record a convincing batch of mid-Sixties classics as part of the original British Invasion; early singles "Catch The Wind" and "Universal Soldier" earned him comparisons with Bob Dylan, but it was his superb run of Top Ten hits between 1966 and '69 where he really left his mark -- "Sunshine Superman", "Mellow Yellow", "Wear Your Love Like Heaven", "Hurdy Gurdy Man", "Atlantis" -- Hey, he recorded with The Jeff Beck Group ("Barabajagal") and his deep album cut "Season Of The Witch" remains one of his best known and most played works, even though it was never officially released as a single -- Rather taken for granted, we think; check out the "Donovan's Greatest Hits" collection on Epic records from 1969, absolutely definitive and near-perfect...

5/10/1946 - Happy Birthday Graham Gouldman, also turning 73 today -- The long-time multi-talented founding member of 10cc is perhaps better known as a songwriter though -- In addition to 10cc hits "The Wall Street Shuffle", "I'm Not In Love", "The Things We Do For Love" and "Dreadlock Holiday", Graham spent his pre-10cc/early 1960's time writing songs for other artists which became classics: The Yardbirds' "For Your Love" and "Heart Full Of Soul", The Hollies' "Bus Stop" and "Look Through Any Window", and Herman's Hermits' "Listen People" and "No Milk Today". Cool hep-kat indeed! Our favorite is the bizarro 1976 10cc masterwork LP "How Dare You!", which still doesn't sound like anything else in all of rock, really inspirational stuff if you're in an anything-goes/creative-state-of-mind. Look it up...

5/10/1960 - There's just too much great stuff to write about the one and only Paul David Hewson, so we'll just keep it simple and say Happy 59th Birthday to U2 lead singer Bono, without a doubt one of rock's all-time-best-ever front men. If you don't love Bono, you probably should find another planet to spend the rest of your life...
