5/11/1963 (53 years ago today) - The Beatles start a 30 week run at No. 1 on the U.K. chart with their debut album "Please Please Me" -- that's 7-and-a-1/2 months at the top, the longest running No. 1 LP by a group...ever! And they're not done yet: the boys' follow-up, "With The Beatles", replaces their debut at No. 1 (in December 1963), and that album ruled the chart for 21 consecutive weeks!!! The world of entertainment is about to be altered forevermore...

5/11/1970 (46 years ago today) - Having Canned Heat, Richie Havens, Country Joe & The Fish, The Who, Santana, Ten Years After, Joe Cocker, Arlo Guthrie, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young all on the same release probably helped: The triple soundtrack album "Woodstock" was released on this date; in less than two weeks, it sells over 500,000, a rather remarkable achievement for a 3 LP set for that era, and remember, not everyone that played at the festival was on the vinyl...

5/11/1941 - Happy Birthday to a great British rock-and-R&B artist, the very distinctive and legendary Eric Burdon, 75 years old today. In addition to his status as lead vocalist for one of The British Invasions premier live bands, The Animals, don't forget Eric's pioneering funk-rock fusion work with War (back in 1970, he was one of the very first artists to successfully get that train-a-rollin'). Rolling Stone ranked him No. 57 on their 100 Greatest Singers of All-Time and Bruce Springsteen has often covered The Animals in his live sets, citing their influence on his work to this day still! Those mid-60's Animals singles were absolutely ferocious: "We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place", "It's My Life", "Don't Bring Me Down", "See See Rider", "I'm Crying", "The House Of The Rising Sun", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", "Sky Pilot"...frankly, we're out of breath! Well done, Mr. Burdon!
