5/22/1958 (57 years ago today) - Jerry Lee Lewis arrives in London to begin his first-ever tour of England and right there with him is his new bride (oh dear), his 13 year old third cousin Myra. Naturally, Jerry was advised not to mention it and just as naturally, Jerry (of course) answers all the questions about his private life, and, naturally, the U.K.'s shock over the controversial marriage steam rolls -- "The Killer" plays only three out a scheduled 37 shows; the tour is cancelled, the public has spoken.

5/22/1971 (44 years ago today) - It's the first usage of the legendary "Tongue and Lip Design" when The Rolling Stones start a four-week run at No. 1 on the U.S. album chart with "Sticky Fingers". The original vinyl release featured a cover that had an actual working zipper on the photo of a crotch clad in tight blue jeans, not worn by Mick Jagger but by an actor-model from Andy Warhol's Factory named Joe Dallesandro. The fact that when you pulled the zipper down you only saw cotton briefs did nothing to "disappoint" -- the music was perhaps the best The Stones had ever recorded: "Brown Sugar", "Wild Horses", "Bitch", "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", "Moonlight Mile"...and that logo...

5/22/1976 (39 years ago today) - Paul McCartney gets his fifth U.S. No. 1 single since the break-up of The Beatles with Wings' "Silly Love Songs" -- it stays in the top spot for five consecutive weeks! File under: "This will show 'em!", because at the time, Paul was being relentlessly mocked and scorned by music critics and John Lennon for his "lightweight pop". Paul's response was this deliberately fluffy-pop-sing-along, and presto: score!!! Beneath Macca's smile was a sneer...
