5/31/1975 (41 years ago today) - The 5th Avenue Hotel in New York City is where The Rolling Stones hold a press conference to announce their forthcoming American tour -- they actually came down the street playing live from the back of a flat-bed truck! It was drummer Charlie Watts' idea, after the practice of New Orleans musicians who would play while strolling down through downtown neighborhoods. Brilliant and cool, really...

5/31/1948 - Born on this date, one of the most influential rock drummers of all-time, the beyond-legendary John Henry Bonham, deservedly held in high esteem for his work with Led Zeppelin. John had it all: speed, power, fast bass-drumming, a distinctive sound and an almost spiritual "feel" for the groove . Hell, all we need is "When The Levee Breaks", and it's class dismissed! Passed away September 25, 1980; fellow band members quite wisely called it a day.
