5/5/1956 (60 years ago today) - Elvis Presley gets his first No. 1 single when "Heartbreak Hotel" soars to the top, and it was a huge success -- not only was it his first million seller, but it also became the best-selling single of 1956, even though it was based on a newspaper story about a lonely man committing suicide by jumping out of a hotel window! True story!

5/5/1969 (47 years ago today) - The Beatles single "Get Back" is released in America; John Lennon claimed there "was some underlying thing about Yoko in there" because every time Paul McCartney would sing the line "Get back to where you once belonged", John claimed Paul would look in Yoko's direction -- for his part, Paul said the song referenced Linda McCartney's ex-husband trying to hustle the band for some moolah.

5/5/1948 - Happy Birthday to original Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward, 68 years old today. In the mid-1960's, Bill and guitarist Tony Iommi played in a band called Mythology; when that group broke up, they joined ex-Rare Breed members Ozzy Osbourne and bassist Geezer Butler to form a new band called Earth, soon to be re-named Black Sabbath. Bingo!!!
