Bo gets banned -- A psychedelic one-hit wonder hits Number One -- A guitar god's birthday...

11/20/1955 (60 years ago today) - Bo Diddley appears on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and is asked by the show's producers to perform his version of "Sixteen Tons". OK! But when he appears on stage, he sings his own song "Bo Diddley" instead, resulting in Bo being banned from any further appearances on the show. Which is actually a cool list to be on...

11/20/1967 (48 years ago today) - The Strawberry Alarm Clock hit the No. 1 spot on the U.S. singles chart with the psychedelic-lite classic "Incense And Peppermints" -- before Christmas rolls around, the song racks up sales of over one million copies! Although credited to other writers, "Incense..." was really based on an original instrumental piece that two of the band members had come up with, one of whom was guitarist Ed King who would go on to achieve fame as a founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

11/20/1946 - Brother Howard Duane Allman was born on this date, truly one of the bona-fide-honest-to-God-irreplaceable talents to ever pick up a guitar. Nicknamed "Skydog", Duane's amazing skills as a guitarist nicely complemented his personality -- an intensity and drive and ability to draw the best out of others in making music. A much sought-after session player both before and during his tenure with The Allman Brothers Band, Duane performed with such established legends as Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, King Curtis, Boz Scaggs, Delaney & Bonnie, Herbie Mann and, most notoriously, with Eric Clapton for the one-studio-album-only project that became Derek & The Dominoes "Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs". Tragically died in a motorcycle accident in his hometown of Macon, Georgia, on October 29th, 1971; he was only 24 years old. Unbelievable.
