It wasn't always easy to be Elvis -- For a one-hit wonder, it was astonishingly successful -- Fifth chart-topper in a row for The Stones...

11/23/1956 (59 years ago today) - At a hotel in Toledo, sheet metal worker Louis Balint is arrested after punching Elvis Presley in the face. The reason? Balint claimed his wife's love for Elvis caused his marriage to break up! He was fined the interesting sum of $19.60, but because he couldn't come up with the dough, he was jailed instead.

11/23/1974 (41 years ago today) - One hit wonder Billy Swan starts two weeks at No. 1 on the U.S. singles chart with "I Can Help". The song became a massive hit throughout most of Europe and also hit No. 1 in Australia. In Norway it was ridiculously over-the-top, spending 37 weeks on the chart (what's that, eight months?!?!) making it the 4th best-selling single of all time in that country.

11/23/1974 (41 years ago today) - The Rolling Stones scored their fifth U.S. No. 1 album with "It's Only Rock 'N' Roll", the last Stones recording for guitarist Mick Taylor. It was also the first LP to be produced by Mick and Keith (under the pseudonym "The Glimmer Twins") and was coincidentally released on the 10th anniversary of their debut album. Interestingly, some of the backing vocals on the title track were sung by an uncredited David Bowie!
