10/24/2002 (17 years ago today) - From the "Remembering Those Who Also Served" Dept.: Record producer Tom Dowd passed away due to complications from emphysema; he was 77 years old. Tom was behind the control board on what can best be described as a definitive "who's who" of recordings that encompassed rock, jazz, blues, pop and soul -- Starting in the 1940's and continuing well into the 21st century, Mr. Dowd worked as both engineer and producer for {take a long, deep breath here, because the list is jaw-droppingly insane} Aretha Franklin, Derek & The Dominoes, Rod Stewart, Willie Nelson, The Allman Brothers, John Coltrane, Sonny & Cher, Eagles, Charlie Mingus, Chicago, Herbie Mann, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Dusty Springfield, The J. Geils Band, Meat Loaf, Ray Charles, Joe Bonamassa, The Spinners, The Rascals, Otis Redding, Diana Ross, Buffalo Springfield, The Drifters, Cream, Booker T & The MG's, Kenny Loggins, The Four Seasons and, somewhat astonishingly, actually many, many more. Now, there you really have it!
