10/28/1957 (58 years ago today) - After a show at L.A.'s Pan Pacific Auditorium, local police are more than eager to inform one Elvis Presley that he will no longer be allowed to wiggle his hips onstage!!! The local press get on it on the action, too -- the next day's headlines announce that Elvis is going to have to clean up his act if he wants to do any more concerts. For his show on the next night, the Los Angeles Vice Squad film the entire set so they can analyze Elvis' performance. Your tax dollars hard at work...again...

10/28/1978 (37 years ago today) - To be fair, they really weren't competing with Warner Bros.' classic "Looney Tunes" catalog...: The animated cartoon "Kiss Meets The Phantom Of The Park" premieres on NBC-TV here in America. The premise: Gene, Paul, Ace and Peter had to take on a mad scientist who has just gone crazy in an amusement park. The real reason for this special was to promote all of Kiss members' individual solo albums which had just been released...

10/28/1997 (18 years ago today) - Fact is, the band was never really the same without him...: Original R.E.M. drummer and founding member Bill Berry announced that he was leaving the group after 17 years to become a farmer. R.E.M. continued to record and tour but with obviously diminishing returns. It happens...
