10/3/1938 - Born on this day, one of rock's earliest superstars, singer-songwriter-guitarist-and-ultra-cool-dude Eddie Cochran. You know his stuff: The Who's raucous version of "Summertime Blues", and both The Stones and Paul McCartney have covered "Twenty Flight Rock". Eddie was one of the first to experiment with multi-track recording and overdubs which, at the time (mid-1950's), was really unheard of; he also played bass, piano and drums on many of his recordings! Tragically died in a car crash in the U.K. when he was just 21. You ought to invest in a collection of Eddie's singles when you need the party to go the next level...

10/3/1949 - Happy Birthday to Fleetwood Mac ace Lindsey Buckingham, 67 years old today, and definitely one of the best players alive today. Here we go:

10/3/1954 - Born on this day, one of the most revered (and righteously so) guitarists to ever grace the musical sphere, the legendary Stevie Ray Vaughan. Despite a short-lived mainstream seven-year career, Stevie's talents as a singer-songwriter-producer-musician earned him international acclaim as the de-facto leader of the 1980's blues revival -- his influence as a powerhouse electric guitar virtuoso cannot be overstated. Another fantastic talent gone too soon: Stevie was just 35 when he died in a helicopter crash August 27, 1990.
