10/4/1961 (55 years ago today) - Bob Dylan plays his first grand showcase at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City. There are only 53 people in the audience, though...

10/4/1969 (47 years ago today) - Creedence Clearwater Revival score their first No. 1 LP when "Green River" starts a four week run at the top. Strange, but true: They never had a No. 1 single. Ever! Oh, they came close (lotsa No. 2 placings, actually), but don'cha think, with all of those mega-classic-singles still gettin' played on the radio today, that at least one would have hit the No. 1 spot? Never happened for 'em, kinda weird...

10/4/1970 (46 years ago today) - The very sad Club 27 gets another member: Janis Joplin is found dead at Hollywood's Landmark Hotel from an accidental heroin overdose, after which she then scores her first (well deserved) chart-toppers: both the single "Me And Bobby McGee" and the album "Pearl" go to No. 1. Fact: Janis remains one of the best-selling artists in the U.S., with over 16 millions albums sold in America alone! She was the real deal, alright:
