9/12/1966 (52 years ago today) - Did your set have rabbit ears?: NBC-TV premieres "The Monkees" at 7:30 pm, just before "I Dream Of Jeannie" on the network's new fall Monday evening line-up"The Roger Miller Show" followed at 8:30, then "The Road West" at 9:00, and the starring-Ben-Gazzara-cult-fave "Run For Your Life" at 10:00 (Remember these? Anybody?) -- Tonight's Monkees debut was titled "Royal Flush" which had the boys on a mission to save Princess Bettina, Duchess of Harmonica(!) from her evil Uncle, Archduke Otto. Good enough to kick-start what turns out to be a 58-episode run...

9/12/1989 (29 years ago today) - Wow, has it really been almost thirty years for this one?: Aerosmith release studio LP No. 10 and it becomes a mega-smash, as "Pump" features some of their nastiest and strongest material to date -- "Monkey On My Back" and "Young Lust" absolutely kill it in classic Aero-style, plus there's a more-than-solid batch of future rock radio staples in "What It Takes", "Love In An Elevator", "Janie's Got A Gun" and "The Other Side". Fantastic, really! And, under the heading "Nice try, guys", a soon-to-be-never-heard-from-again rock band named Pump went ahead and sued Aerosmith (and their management) for "service mark infringement". Our gang won. Quite easily.

9/12/1952 - Happy Birthday to one of the truly all-time great drummers, Rush founding member and lyricist Neal Peart, 66 years old today, unquestionably at (or very near) the top of the list of percussionists whose talent is best described as "beyond belief"! And as much as we admire Geddy on bass and Alex on guitar, when a Rush song comes on, you pretty much find yourself doing more air-drumming than anything else. At least we do...
