9/20/1968 (48 years ago today) - They started the sessions calling themselves The (New) Yardbirds, y'know...: At Olympic Studios, London, Led Zeppelin begin recording their debut album. They do almost all of it live -- including minimal overdubs, the LP is completed in just under 36 hours total! Not to be an old fogey, but really kids, that kind of searing efficiency and talent ought to make today's knob-twiddlers and auto-tuners s---t their pants.

9/20/1975 (41 years ago today) - David Bowie finally gets his first U.S. No. 1 single with "Fame"; in fact, it's his first foray into the Top Ten! Co-written with John Lennon, the track becomes a mega-hit alright: on Billboard's Top 100 for 1975, it finished the year at a mighty strong No. 7 ranking as well. Bowie was typically detached, claiming he had "absolutely no idea" the song would do so well: "I wouldn't know how to pick a single if it hit me in the face."

9/20/1976 (40 years ago today) - AC/DC release their third studio album "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap". It does rather well, selling over six million copies in the U.S. alone, making it the band's third best selling album in America, right behind "Highway To Hell" and "Back In Black". Now there's a 1--2--3 punch!!!
