9/30/1964 (56 years ago today) - Just another day in the studio? C'mon now!: The Beatles sessions at Abbey Road in London today include "Every Little Thing", "What You're Doing" and "No Reply" -- In the U.K., the tracks are released on their fourth studio LP "Beatles For Sale", while here in the U.S., the songs are split up to create two new releases, "Beatles '65" and "Beatles VI". Either way, a truly artistic corner has been turned and the full-length LP format will never be the same way again...

9/30/1965 (55 years ago today) - Oh, to have had a DVR back then...: Appearing on the "Shindig!" TV show tonight are The Hollies performing "I'm Alive" (actually pre-recorded at the BBC), The Turtles knock out a pair of covers (Dylan's "It Ain't Me Babe" and The Searchers' "Needles And Pins"), Lesley Gore did her two most famous songs ("It's My Party" and "Sunshine, Lollipops And Rainbows"), and Donovan made his U.S. television debut with "Colours". Weirdly, the host for the evening was...Mickey Rooney?!?! Yup!

9/30/1935 - Not that we're big fans, but anyway Happy Birthday to singer Johnny Mathis, 85 years old today -- "Chances Are" was definitely 'thee classic smasheroo', but try this on for size: "Johnny's Greatest Hits" album spent over nine years on the Billboard chart! The only other record to top that achievement? Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon". A collective sigh of relief is in order...
