9/7/1978 (38 years ago today) - He truly left his mark on every Who album and single, from their 1965 debut "My Generation" all the way up to "Who Are You" (1978), which was released two weeks before he passed away on this date: The absolutely irreplaceable Keith Moon died of an overdose of the prescription medication heminevrin, which he was taking to battle his alcohol addiction. The band just never sounded the same without him... 

9/7/1985 (31 years ago today) - The first one was "Naughty Naughty" (a No. 1 single in 1984): On this date, John Parr joins the ranks of rock's two-hit wonders with the theme song to "St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion)", which not only goes to the top of the chart but is also nominated for a Grammy award later in the year. We also read that he has (supposedly) sold around 10 million albums worldwide, but beyond these two No. 1 singles, we find that "fact"...well, confusing...

9/7/1951 - Happy Birthday to a true punk-rock pioneer, the founding member-lead vocalist-guitarist-and-songwriter for The Pretenders, let's hear it for the truly intimidating and totally convincing Chrissie Hynde, 65 years old today. Probably tops the list of the most taken-for-granted women artists of the last 50 years. Seriously, The Pretenders 1980 debut album alone is still capable of blowing your little rock brains out...
