9/21/1980 (35 years ago today) - While taking a work-out break during a North American tour, Bob Marley collapsed as he was jogging around Central Park in New York City; hospital tests end up revealing a diagnosis of cancer. Two nights later, Bob plays his last ever concert at the Stanley Theatre in Pittsburgh.

9/21/1986 (29 years ago today) - The National Enquirer features a picture of Michael Jackson sleeping in an oxygen chamber; the story claims it was part of Michael's bizarre plan to live until he was at least 150 years old.

9/21/2011 (4 years ago today) - One more reason to love The Fab Four: A contract revealing that The Beatles refused to perform in front of a segregated audience at the Cow Palace in Daly City, California, on August 31, 1965, sold for $23,000 at an auction in Los Angeles! The show would not go on unless there was a desegregation clause added to the contract -- the promoters wisely gave in. The legal paperwork also revealed that the band would earn a guaranteed $40,000, with no less than 150 police officers to provide security for the show. FYI: they played two sets of 12 songs each on the August 31st date: the matinee held 11,700; the evening show sold out to 17,000. Ticket prices for these Beatle performances? $4, $5.50, and $7.
