Here at WBLM we are saddened to hear of another great loss this month in the world of rock. Paul Kantner guitarist and founding member of the pioneering 60's psychedelic band, Jefferson Airplane and then Jefferson Starship in the 70's and early 80's. He died last Thursday at 74 of multiple organ failure and septic shock. The only time he wasn't with Jefferson Starship was after 1984's Nuclear Furniture. He wasn't on board with the new musical direction and decided to leave. Paul also took legal action to prevent the remaining members from using the name Jefferson Starship. After which the band shortened their name to just Starship. Probably a smart move on his part. Remember We Built This City? He brought back his version of Jefferson Starship in 1992. Jefferson Airplane were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.

Paul Kantner leaves behind his daughter China (who's mother is Grace Slick) and two sons named Gareth and Alexander.

Join us tonight at 6:20 for live Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship on the WBLM Mini-Concert.

Watch Paul Kantner sing co-lead vocals on Ride the Tiger from their 1974 album, Dragon Fly.
