If there was any doubt if the rut is here in Maine, this video shot in Lewiston of a battle between two bucks should make it clear.

The rut is another term for mating season, particularly deer. The best hunting is during the rut as bucks are less cautious of their surroundings as they search of a potential mate.

That same drive also makes for scenes like this video shot in Lewiston near No Name Pond. These two bucks got into it on a dirt road. They don't have much at all in the way of antlers to fight with and they look kind of small, so we're guessing these guys might be on the young side. It pretty much was just a big head butting contest.

Stop fighting kids or mom will send you to a corner for the woods.
