You've brushed your teeth and snuggled into bed when you suddenly realize that you didn't text your Mom about Sunday brunch and you forgot to email your boss about an important project. Back to that bright blue glow of your phone or tablet as sleep gets pushed off once again. More than a quarter of parents are texting and emailing after getting into bed, and our kids are taking after us. It's messing with our sleep, but there is an easy solution. Turn off all electronic devices an hour before bed and don't keep them at arms length. It's going to be hard, but interacting with these gadgets within an hour of bedtime suppresses the melatonin hormone in your brain that makes you sleep. it's especially important for kids who play interactive games because they are stimulating, so it's harder to fall asleep when they try. Not getting enough sleep has its consequences, so set a good example for the kids and put the electronics away an hour before you hit the hay!
