Talk about those once-in-a-lifetime moments. Sarah Verney took to Facebook to share something incredible, and frankly never seen in Maine, two lynx having a face to face meeting right outside Baxter State Park.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Verney was traveling with friends on a dirt road Kokadjo, a relatively unknown town in northern Maine. Thankfully she had phone in hand to catch something that truly never happens in vacationland, a witnessed meeting of extremely rare and threatened cats known as lynx.

The video itself is captivating. Make sure you have your volume up to hear the boisterous sounds that once lynx makes to the other. You even get to see a small sliver of the playful side of larger cats, as one of them thinks about swatting the other. Similar moves are often used by domestic house cats. Eventually the face to face confrontation ends with the cats walking off in different directions, with all of us the true winners.

It's truly rare to encounter one lynx in a lifetime here in Maine, never mind two in the same spot, at the same time. It's a stark reminder how beautiful and incredible nature can be, and how lucky we are in Maine to have this in our backyard.
