Our friends at WGME TV have found a fantastic piece of sports coverage done by the late, great Frank Fixaris (man oh man, I miss that voice) from 30 years ago. Maine's Arnie Army was out in full force to watch him play and win the Unionmutual Seniors Golf Classic in Cape Elizabeth. Make sure you watch till the end to see the easygoing interview Frank does with Arnold just after he won. Both men are shining examples of kindness and class.

Remembrance: The passing of the great Arnold Palmer has me reflecting on memories of my Dad, 'Barney' watching him play in the '70s. Oftentimes, my father would excitedly say that Arnie was playing and urged me join him in the living room. At that age, I would've much rather been watching American Bandstand or the Big Blue Marble. Dad was an avid golf fan and his enthusiasm was hard to resist, even for a ten year old me. I never got into to watching golf as much as my father and brothers, but this Arnold Palmer guy caught my attention. It wasn't just his champion ability to hit the 'lynx', it was when he spoke to the cameras. Arnold Palmer was always a charming gentleman who made everyone he talked with feel important. As a kid, my parents instilled the value that every human is important. Arnold Palmer was a strong symbol for openness and inclusiveness. He was one of the greatest role models of our generation, along with my Mom and Dad of course. We could all use a refresher on compassion these days, right?

We'll never forget this smiling face.
