A scary moment today in Windham. From a Windham Police Press release this afternoon:

"Windham Police and Fire personnel were called to Pettingil Pond in the area of Shore Road for a report of a car submerged in the water.
Subsequent investigation shows that a 2011 Subaru Outback owned by Edward Hallett of Windham, was parked on private property, with the engine running and the parking brake set. A two-year-old child was in the rear seat secured in a safety seat. Hallett was outside the vehicle when it began rolling toward Pettingil Pond. The vehicle rolled over an embankment and entered the water, immediately followed by Hallett and a neighbor. The child was quickly rescued from the vehicle as it sank, and was not injured.
The Windham Police Department has investigated the incident and determined that it was accidental and no criminal charges are anticipated. The vehicle was removed from the pond the following day after consultation with the fire department and Maine’s Department of Environmental Protection. "
