What Happens to Your Body When You Quit Drinking For a Month.
Did you know that "Dry January" is a thing? It is! After the holidays quite a few people take a step back from overindulgence and stop drinking for a month. It's actually a very healthy trend that has a positive impact on your health. A study was done on "normal drinkers" and here is what scientists found:
- Participants lost an average of 3.5 pounds, making them less likely to develop diabetes.
- Lowered cholesterol levels
- Slept better
- Better concentration
- The amount of fat in their livers lowered by an average of 15%. This is important because a fatty liver can lead to liver disease.
- Six months later, those who followed through with the one month study drank significantly less than they did before the study.
Short term and long term, it does a body good. Unfortunately, of the 850 people who started the study only about two-thirds of them made it through without drinking for a month!
