Cumberland County Civic Center and Cross Insurance announced Wednesday they have signed a new, long-term naming rights agreement to name the Portland 7,000-seat venue the Cross Insurance Arena.

According to a press release issued by Roberta Wright, the civic center's event services director. Cross Insurance paid $2.5 million to secure the naming rights for the Portland facility for 10 years. The agreement will also help repay the $33 million renovation bond approved by Cumberland County taxpayers in November 2011, according to the press release.

The agreement also means that Cross Insurance now holds the naming rights for the Portland venue as well as the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, making it the only insurance agency in the US to have secured naming rights for two major arena complexes.
