Logo Merchandise is big business in sports. Before games are even played, winning apparel is printed for both teams. All four of our major American sports leagues- MLB, NFLNBA and NHL- require the destruction of the incorrect post-season apparel. For years the clothes were incinerated, but eventually the leagues began donating the goods to groups that distribute them to people living in disaster areas and impoverished nations.

Here are where some of the donations went:

  • In 2009, after losing Super Bowl XLIII, Arizona Cardinals gear was sent to El Salvador.
  • In 2010, after the Saints defeated Indianapolis, Colts gear was sent to earthquake-ravaged Haiti.
  • In 2011, the Steelers lost to the Green Bay Packers, so their Super Bowl apparel was distributed to Zambia, Armenia, Nicaragua and Romania.
  • In 2015, New England beat Seattle and all of the Seahawks schwag was sent to Azerbaijan and Georgia.

It's too soon to know where the Panther's gear from this Super Bowl will go. The organization distributing it, Good360, will be working with their non-profit partners to determine where it is needed most.

Do you have any other suggestions for the misprints? How much would you pay for one? With all of the money going to charity, of course. Comment here or tweet #pantherchamps
