The Yarmouth Police Dept. is warning businesses and citizens that a scam is going down in town. Callers are posing as employees of C.M.P., the call even looks like it's coming from them. People are being told that their power is about to be disconnected and are instructed to get a pre-paid disposable credit card, call back a different number and give the credit card information to their "billing department". Central Maine Power will never ask you to this! The scammers won't allow you to pay with a personal credit card or your checking account, saying they take too long to clear. These scammers are very convincing and may even have some of your information already, adding to the illusion.

Central Maine Power Company has warnings up on their website as well along with tips on avoiding scams.
