I'm just going to come right out and say it. This summer in Maine has sucked. The weather has been less than ideal. It rained every damn day it seems in July with Portland getting almost 9.5 inches of rainfall. What? And the humidity. It's been unbearable this season. Every morning I go out and the car is wet, but sometimes it's not because it rained. It's just the water in the air.

I have been mowing the lawn for a long time now. The day I was old enough to get behind a mower and push it up and down the yard, I've been mowing grass. Not that I wanted to mow the lawn. I hated it as a kid, but my dad must have hated it too because he was quick to teach me how. Pull the handle until it starts, which it never did until about the tenth pull. Then go around the perimeter of the lawn and work your way to the center. Oh, and when the bag is full, carry that heavy thing down the pucka brush and dump it there. Fun times. I still hate mowing to this day. And that perimeter thing is a pain. I just go back and forth now.

This summer is a tale of spinning around in circles. Not with the mower itself, but just being able TO mow. Normally I only have to mow my lawn once a week, but this summer is special. Thanks to all that rain, it grows so fast that it needs to be mowed more often. This is a week's worth of growth in my backyard. It's insane.

The never-ending loop that I'm stuck in is the grass keeps growing because it keeps raining, but I can't mow it because all the rain and humidity keep the grass wet which clogs up the mower, but I have to mow or it will get too long, but the rain and the humidity won't stop so I can't mow, which causes the grass to get longer...

You get the idea. Any attempts to mow the lawn, even when mowing half the width of the mower and going slow makes it choke and sputter as the grass coats the underside like thick pudding and creates piles of grass clippings like a dog that decided to poop all over the lawn. This is one of the smaller piles.

I'm almost at the point that I'm ready to call in the big guns and have a professional come in with those big fancy turn-on-a-dime riding industrial mowers to whack this all down for me. I can't be the only one dealing with this problem. What do you do about a lawn that won't dry because the grass is too tall and you can't mow it because it keeps raining?
