While there is nothing wrong with modern homes, many people would agree that older houses have a certain charm their newer counterparts lack.

They are often more sturdily constructed, they have unique features, and often seem to have more of a personality.

The 144-year-old home that sits at 1135 East Pittston Road in Pittston is a prime example of this.

Moody Mansion

According to the listing on the Laflin and Wolfington Realty website, the Queen Anne Victorian home is often considered a local landmark.

Built in 1880, it was constructed as a vacation home for a wealthy New York realtor.

The website explains that Leonard Moody was a Central Maine native who grew up farming and cutting wood in the Pittston area.  Moody married a woman from New York, moved to the city, and became one of Brooklyn’s leading real estate brokers.

After making his fortune, Moody decided that his family needed a 'summer cottage' in Central Maine.  What he ended up with was the ultimate vacation home.

Moody Mansion was built in 1880 and remained a favorite vacation home of the family until it was sold in 1905.

The listing explains that when it was sold:

At the time, newspapers cited the home as being the finest in the county, with no expenses or luxuries spared during the design and construction.
